Shopping Trip 6/19: This I Why I Love CVS

I wanted to go to CVS today to take advantage of the great baby products ECB sale going on this week (Spend $25 on participating items, get $10 ECBs).  I also wanted to grab a few more items that were producing ECBs, so I decided to split my trip up into two transactions, which is something I do not typically do.  I'm not saying you shouldn't, though.  It is a great way to keep your OOP down.  I just normally can't keep all the transactions straight in my head.  This time, though, it was only 5 items total, so I figured I could manage. ;)

Here is what I got on the first transaction:

Shelf Price:  $30.98
Sale Price:   $26.00  ($20 for Pampers, $6 for Huggies Wipes)
--Used $1.50/1 Pampers from P&G insert  (I also found this coupon on my Cheerios box)
--Used $0.50/1 Huggies Wipes from 6/12 SS  AND used a $2/1 Store Coupon that printed when I picked up my husbands RX last week.
--Used $12.99 in ECBs from last trip and a $5 ECB from taking a survey for the CVS advisor panel.
Total OOP:  $4.35     86%  Savings   and I got back $10 ECBs

This is what I got in transaction 2:
Total Shelf Price:  $12.97
Total Sale Price:   $11.77
--Used  $1/1 Hershey Bliss from 5/1 SS
--Used  $0.75/1 Colgate from 6/5 SS
--Used $10 in ECBs from transaction 1.
Total OOP:  $0.07    99% Savings   and I got back $9.99 in ECBS
(ECBs=  $5.99 from Bliss, $2 from Colgate, $2 from gel)

Here is everything that I got tonight.  A total value of  43.95.  I paid a total of $4.42 with tax.  That's a total savings of 90%, and I'm all stocked up on diapers for when we go out of town in a couple weeks (I won't be using my cloth ones when we travel).

Here's a shot of my receipts.

I think the best part is that, I left my house, returned my RedBox movies, went in, did 2 transactions, and returned to my house within half an hour.  And the planning didn't take much time either, maybe 10 minutes while I was waiting on dinner to cook.  So, my point is, don't be intimidated by drug stores.  They can be huge money savers, especially on things like what I bought tonight that can really eat away at your budget.  I know their prices can be higher ($5.99 for that chocolate up there!), but once you have "their money (ECBs, etc.)" to spend instead of yours, that really doesn't matter all that much.

Did you make it to CVS today?  What did you get?  Or do you plan to go later in the week?

Help! I know that you are in Dallas/Richardson somewhere and I need to ask you which CVS you go to. For some reason, when I do the 'spend x dollars, receive x ECB's' at my CVS with coupons, I don't get the deals - ever. If the coupons reduce the price, I don't get the ECB's. I have no problem with this at either Walgreens, but my CVS seems to be confused.

=( I'm actually in South Garland, and I usually shop at the the CVS on the corner of First and Kingsley.

The store shouldn't matter those because the deals are all coded in the systems nationally. If you look really close under an ECB deal you will see an 8 digit code number in parenthesis.

the only thing that I can think is that maybe one of the items you got didnt ring up as part of the sale and didnt count towards the $x you had to spend. If you look at the bottom of your receipt it should show you how much you've spent towards it and how much you still need to spend. It also will save that information for the length of the sale so you can fill in the gaps at another store if need be, which I think is a pretty neat thing.

I hope that helps a little. If you let me know more specifics (what week, what deal, and what you bought) maybe I can figure it out. It my doesnt print out always ask before you leave the store, because they can make it print if it should have just by typing in that code.

Also, if you bought makeup, the register only counts non-clearance items toward any amount you have to spend to get ECBs. That's a recent change.

Just stopping by to check out the great deals you procured. I've got a $5 off $20 coupon that expires Saturday. I already went shopping for this week's deals so I'm looking for something I forgot about to top off my newspaper purchase. :)

And hey, I'm in Plano. My mom lives in Garland and I go to that CVS sometimes. What a trip! There's this one girl at the counter that just talks and talks and always rings up my order wrong. In any case, keep up the good work!

Thanks Heather. I hope you had a good trip when you went back. I'd love to hear about it. The only issues I've ever had at that store are grumpy pharmacists =) And there's a new manager I'm not to sure about but so far so good. LOL
