Breast Cancer Awareness: Pink Ribbon Pin Giveaway

Source: google.com via Denise on Pinterest

October is Breast Cancer awareness month, as I'm sure you are all well aware by now.   Breast Cancer is a FAR too common ailment, and I think that most people personally know at least one person who has been diagnosed with it.

I have a dear aunt who is a survivor.  She has a mastectomy, and went through both chemo and radiation treatments.  She's need not quite back to her old self, energy wise, but she is cancer free!  (She's actually coming to visit me tomorrow!)

My husband is a high school teacher.  Last year his helping teacher was diagnosed.  She went through very intense chemo treatments to minimize her time away from work, but she is back now and doing well.  This year, his principal was diagnosed.  She will be beginning her treatments soon.

I also have a friend whose father (yes, men get it too!) was diagnosed and treated.

A few weeks ago, I requested a freebie, and it arrived yesterday:

I requested it because it was free, so why not.  But when it arrived, I realized that it would not be serving it's purpose if I kept it.  You see, I'm just not a jewelry/accessories type of person.  For one thing, I have metal allergies.  (I can't even wear my wedding ring at the moment until I can have it re-plated because I get an itchy scaly rash on my finger within the hour.  Likely the back of the pin would do the same.)  And secondly, I just don't think about them.

So, realistically, this pin would get tossed into my jewelry box, never to emerge again.  I mean, it's not that I do not wish to wear my pin in honor of these people in my life.  I just know me, and I'm trying to be realistic here.

Therefore, I've decided that I'm going to give away my pin to one of you.  All you have to do to enter is to leave a comment below saying who you would wear the pin for.  You don't have to elaborate (though feel free to!).  You can be as vague as "a friend" if that's all you wish to share, because I know this is a very tough subject.

My only goal here is to draw some attention to how widespread this disease is, and to put this pin in the hands of someone who will truly use it.  If that is you, please leave a comment in honor of your loved ones.  If that describes someone you know, please share this post with them, so they can comment as well.

I will leave this open for entries until the end of October, and then I will allow my Aunt (the survivor!) to help me choose a winner at random before she heads back home.

I would love to have a pin like this. Recently, two of my friends lost someone to breast cancer. She was mother to one and an aunt to the other. This woman was very sweet and will be dearly missed by everyone who she touched.

I would love to win it. I sure would wear it. I had a scare at one point when the doctor examined me. But I thank God daily that the tests showed that it wasn't cancer. But one of my friend went through it.
