Aldi Deals 8/17-8/23...And A Question?
Here are the best prices I see advertised for this week at Aldi:
Produce:
Seedless Watermelon $2.99
Red/Green Grapes $0.89/lb ($1.78 for 2lb pack)
Peaches/Plums/Nectarines $0.29 each.
Most weeks, the only items advertised (mostly because they are the only things whose prices changes very much) is produce. I've read a ton of comments on other blogs that spoke poorly of the produce at their Aldi, and many that said they took the Aldi ad to Wal-Mart to price match it because theirs was of higher quality.
I wanted to know how you all felt about the produce at Aldi. For me usually find it to be of high quality, but it is a small store that only gets a truck once a week (and I've yet to figure out what day..it seems to vary). Maybe my shopping day coincides nicely with new produce shipments? I have made random stops in there on different days and been turned off by the produce, and usually when I stop by the store closer to my husband's work instead of closest to our home, I do not have the best luck with their produce.
I guess I'm just really trying to figure out the general consensus on this because it seems to me that when the produce is not looking so great it has been sitting there the longest and they are usually in the process of unloading fresh.
In any case, I wanted to get your input. Personally, their produce prices made us able to actually eat fresh produce again, so no complaints out of me. =)

Well I'll say that the 3 stores around me, the produce is horrible. We had bananas one day and the next they were all mush, I normally don't buy my produce there but this was something my grandmother bought us and they were all already browned, etc. Way past the stage of anyone in my house eating them. Good for bread but that was it. Other stuff too. just really poor quality it seems. :(
I've honestly had the opposite problem. I'm thinking that my usual friday shopping day is truck day for my store because I usually find totally green bananas there.
it seems when I change up my routine it doesnt look so hot...
Thanks for the feedback!
In my store it is also hit or mis. Somedays I find great produce and fruit and other days I have seen rotting items. Therefore I always inspect the produce very carefully and tend to buy things like apples, pears, potatoes that last longer if they look great. I used to make a special trip for milk every 2 weeks when it was so cheap ($0.99) but now (price is the same as Walmart here $1.99) I only hit Aldi if I need to go to FW for some other errands. I still buy most of my baking stuff there, canned beans and cheese.
