Rock N Learn Review and Giveaway
I was recently given the opportunity to review a DVD from the children's learning series ROCK N LEARN. I was sent a complimentary copy of two DVDs (one age appropriate for each of my daughters), so that they could watch them and I could share my thoughts.
Today I want to tell you about the first DVD we watched: Colors, Shapes, and Counting.
My Review:
When I got this DVD, I totally thought that it would only engage my 2 year old, and not my 5 year old, but my 5 year old was very excited to watch it also. I honestly did not think she would learn anything new from it when I put it into the DVD player. I was also not sure my 2 year old would sit still for it at all, since TV isn't really her thing yet.
I was pleasantly surprised on both accounts, however. The video began with basic colors and familiar objects in those colors. My toddler was pointing out and naming the objects shown, as well as repeating the color words. She sat and watched and interacted with the 46 minute long video for a good 15 minutes until it got too hard for her, and she ran off to play. I thought that was a really long time for her to sit and pay attention to something, so I was impressed with that.
My 5 year old at that point gained even more interest in it because it moved on to some rare colors and shapes that are not often taught in these types of series (or even to young elementary school students I would think). After it ended she was running around the house excitedly pointing out "turquoise" colors, and that my glasses were shaped like ellipses and not just ovals. I was quite amused by her.
The video also did an outstanding job of putting all of the knowledge it shared together in the end. It would show a variety of objects of different shapes and colors, and have them count how many were a certain shape and color. It gave a bit of time for them to come to their own answers before telling them the correct answer as well.
At first I thought these were going to be pretty cheesy, but I am honestly very impressed at how they were orchestrated.
