Dishing It Up Recipe Hop: Pies--Dutch Apple Crumb Pie
I think everyone's favorite part of the holidays is desert! Today my blogger friends and I have put together a list of pie recipes you are sure to love!
The one I will be sharing is one that my husband makes (in fact he just made up one tonight and it was delectable!) The topping is really what makes this pie awesome!
Dutch Apple Crumb Pie:
Ingredients:
1/2 cup sugar
1/4 cup brown sugar
3 tbsp. flour
1/4 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. cinnamon
1/4 tsp. nutmeg
2 tsp. lemon juice
1 frozen deep dish pie shell3 lbs. sliced apples (He uses a mixture of granny smith for tartness and gala for sweetness. He doesn't use red delicious because they get mushy when baked.)
Topping:
3/4 cup flour
1/4 cup sugar
1/4 cup brown sugar
1/3 cup butter (not margarine)
Directions:
Mix first seven ingredients for filling. Peel and slice apples into mixture. Pour into pie shell. Place apples in first and then cover with remaining liquids.
Mix topping ingredients. Cut with fork or mix by hand until desired crumbly consistency. Sprinkle over apples.
Bake at 375* for 1 hour.
Allow to cool, or the center will be a bit juicy (but that's how I like it!). ;)

I'd like a slice with vanilla bean ice cream please. Thanks. :)
That's how he likes to eat it too! LOL
I agree with Pary Moppins, a nice warm slice of this pie with a scoop of cold ice cream - YUM!!
