It was shaping up to be another busy day around here before I even saw my Day 17 assignment! I guess things really aren't completely back to normal after all of my houseguests.
I decided this morning to do some impromptu rearranging (moving kid's desk to room and table from room to living room). That was on my list, but I didn't get it done yet. I also wanted to make a run to Albertsons, but once I saw everything else I needed to do, I realized that gathering coupons wasn't going to happen, nor was there anything on sale that I couldn't live without, so I let it go!
Here was the assignment that was posted this morning:
--Get dressed in something that makes you feel great. (I did this first thing, and halfway through the day I realized my shirt was on backwards! LOL)
--Sit down with a cup of coffee or tea, refer to your list of weekly goals, and make a list of no more than 5-7 specific things you want to accomplish today. (ok, I admit mine had a few more than that!)
--Complete your morning routine. (I'm still working on getting out of bed before the kids alarm goes off...not happening!)
--Set the timer for 15 minutes and do a quick-clean of your bathroom.
--Clean out and reorganized your kitchen cupboards and pantry.--Find 7 items to get rid of today. Throw them out, stick them in a donate or garage sale box, give them to a friend who can use them, or list them on Craigslist or eBay.
I started the day with washing some laundry and finishing the large pots and pans that didn't fit into the dishwasher from
yesterday's massive cooking day! I found out that my 2 year old loves to dry pots! She was actually angry when there were no more!
I was planning on doing a baking day today, and getting some muffins made for the freezer, but I honestly wasn't sure if I had all the ingredients in my pantry or not. So, when I saw this task on the list, I thought that would be a logical first step, and baking could wait (although my bananas won't wait too long!)
I was planning on tackling the pantry during naptime after lunch, but for some reason my daughter passed out on the couch around 11am and slept until 12:45!

If you look very closely, there are two little doggies crammed into that sunny spot on the back of the couch! |
So, I decided to go ahead and tackle the pantry while she slept. Here's what it looked like to begin with:
It was still fairly well organized as far as what belongs on what shelf, but there were a few things that needed to be moved around. I went shelf by shelf from top to bottom, took everything out, wiped down the shelves and dried them, and then put back the items that belonged on that shelf.
Here's what it looks like now (my husband even noticed it was neat, and he's not one to notice such things!)
I also found this at the bottom (planting it is going on my list for tomorrow!)
Here are my things I'm getting rid of:
I had
a little kitchen mishap yesterday that blackened a few of my burner covers. I didn't think there was a point in keeping the one non-burnt one without a matching set,s o I tossed them all. The corn holder thingamabobs rusted in the dishwasher....=( and the glass and bowl were cracked and leaked.
As soon as a finished this up, my daughter woke up from her little nap. We had lunch and played a bit, and then we tidied up the bathrooms. After her sister got home, and my husband got home, I cooked a delicious potato soup with ham and broccoli. It was my first time ever making a potato soup and it come our wonderful. We even put away 4 containers of it in the freezer, so I got some freezer cooking in after all (I wasn't quite sure how much the recipe would make since I'd never made it). I will share the recipe with you all soon!
After dinner, and feeling pretty accomplished for the day, we took the girls out for a bike ride around the neighborhood before dinner. The weather was gorgeous, and they had a good time! The little one is getting pretty good at pedaling, too!
Now it's time to head to bed and rest up for another busy day tomorrow--new grocery ads come out, so I'll be up early posting the deals! Maybe I can squeeze in some muffin baking time! ;)

Love those little doggies in the sun! My dog finds the tiniest rays of light coming in too and basks in it.
Great job on organizing again. I only did my food cabinets today - I totally spaced on the rest but will try to play catch up tomorrow and get back on track.
Are those sweet potatoes that are growing in your pantry? I was going to plant potatoes this year until I swagbucksed it and realized they don't grow well in heat. We grew them back in NW Arkansas but upper 90s were hot there - and unusual :-) I'm going to wait until the fall to try potatoes here. Maybe sweet potatoes are different? I did try planting some strawberry tops though- I figure it's worth a shot.
Skaynopoyos--I have a skylight in my living room, and the sunny spot moves as the sun does, and they follow it across the room everyday. Rotten little things!
Cricket- Do let me know how those strawberries turn out! I found some at Aldi that I bought (it was like a hunk of dirt with the root systems already begun) and they are growing but haven't started putting on fruit yet. I'm not sure about the potatoes, but I figure it is worth a try!
