I Finally Used A Coupon....(Link Up!)

Quite a few of them actually! No, not that many. I didn't take it to extremes, and I didn't get everything for free, but I was able to save a lot on things we had run out of, so that's the most important thing!

I finally got my coupons back in order (remember, I hadn't used one in like 3 weeks!), so after I typed up the grocery deals yesterday, putting my list together and gathering up my own coupons was easy! I decided that I wanted to shop the sales at both Tom Thumb and Albertsons this week, so after I dropped my oldest daughter off at school this morning, my youngest and I hit the stores!

My first stop was Tom Thumb. Here is what I picked up (click to enlarge):

Sale Price: $34.51 *Already 44% Savings
Price Paid After Coupons: $23.51 *62% Savings

Note: I think I should have saved another $1 because when she scanned my $1/4 pizza coupon she said that it wouldn't take it. There was no e-coupon on my receipt, so the only thing I can figure is that the ad said *when you buy 5* so there must have been an automatically deducted manufacturer coupon that gave the discount, though it does not appear on my receipt. (Their receipts are sooooo confusing!)

Next I hopped over to Albertons (after I got gas...$53 OUCH!). Here is was I grabbed there (click to enlarge):

The BBQ Sauce actually had a coupon at the register that made them 2 for $1 ($1 each regular price). I grabbed two since the BBQ season is coming to an end, and I doubt I will see prices that low for a while. I know there are some $0.50/1 from the 8/21 SS that will double and make these free though. (Looks like some areas got the $1/2 which is the coupon they have in store.

I didn't get a whole lot of stuff today, but I did make a bit of progress into building my small stockpile back up...it had dwindled. Plus, the things that I got should last a good while for packing lunches. I'm not gonna lie though, those pizzas will be gone by next week. We are really bad with the last night snacking around here! I'm just glad we finally have something to snack on. We were getting down to the last few boxes of cereal! LOL.

Kroger Deals 9/7-9/13 (And NO More Doubles!)

Before I get into the deals at Kroger this week, I need to share what was plastered across the top of the sale ad this morning:

This seems to be a Texas only thing (if you live elsewhere and see it in your ad, please let us know so we can see just how widespread this is!). My friend over at Frugally Thrifty checked out a few different areas and thinks it is just for Texas (for now, at least!)

What this means is that if you want to get your coupons doubled at Kroger, you better do it this week! Kroger seems to have the lowest prices around here on many items (only by 10-20 cents though), so I've made a habit of taking all of my expiring coupons that would double there at the end of the month and see what deals I can get. I guess I will have to be changing my strategy.

Honestly, I haven't found their deals very appealing recently, and haven't even been there in a LONG time. but I did transfer a prescription there and have a $25 credit to use, so I will try to use that up before this goes into affect.

To me that still seems a bit pricey, but these things are one thing we crave from time to time, so we will pick them up from the Chinese Restaurant and get like 3 orders at a time at $4 per 8 ct., so this is still much cheaper than doing *that*.

Repost: Dishing It Up Recipe Hop--BBQ

This is a repost of our special BBQ recipes Dishing It Up Hop at our normal time (first posted on Friday):

It's Labor Day Weekend! The kids get a break from school (didn't that just start?). The temperature is dropping (those of us in Texas are rejoicing!), and many of us are planning BBQ's with friends and family!

Perhaps you are attending one over the weekend, and don't have a clue what to bring! Well, my blogging buddies and I are here to help! =)

We've come up with a list of our favorite BBQ friendly recipes. They include everything from main dishes, to sides and desserts. Just click through the linky below to see the other recipes!

The recipe I will be sharing with you is a dessert recipe that my mom makes. My family loves it soooo much that they pretty much make her bring it to every family gathering.

Four Layer Delight:

Bottom Layer:
--1 cup all purpose flour
--1/2 cup pecans, chopped (optional, yet delectable)
--1 stick butter, melted
--2 tbsp sugar

Mix ingredients together and spread in tbe bottom of a 9x13 inch casserole dish. Bake at 350 until lightly brown. Let cool completely.

Second Layer:
--1 Cup Cool Whip
--1 8oz pack Cream Cheese
--1 cup powdered sugar
--1 tsp vanilla (optional)

Mix ingredients together and spread over cool crust.

Third Layer:
--1 Large or 2 Small boxes of instant chocolate pudding mix. Follow directions on the box for making. Spread over cream cheese mixture.

Fourth Layer:

Spread Cool Whip on top. Cover and refrigerate.

Aldi Trip 9/4

After my trip to CVS, I had to stop by Aldi to pick up a few things we needed around the house. I ended finding some great markdowns while I was there, too!

Here is what I picked up tonight:

You may see all of those hamburger and hotdog buns and think that I am having a huge BBQ tomorrow, but that is not the case at all! those were actually marked down to just $0.29 each, so I grabbed 4 packs of each. They all have just under a week until their date is up (I think the managers were trying to move them now so they would not be just sitting there while the store was closed tomorrow!). I plan to put them into the freezer until we need them.

I also grabbed another watermelon while I was there. I just chunked up and froze a whole watermelon and cantaloupe, but the melons cost just $1.50 EACH!!, so I figured that having a bit more in the freezer couldn't hurt!

All of this stuff cost me just $36.94, and I grabbed plenty of snacks for our trip to the wave park tomorrow (last day to use our Groupon!) and the drinks/grapes/lunchmeat should last to pack a couple lunches for my daughter this week.

CVS Trip 9/4 Saved 97% $0.61 OOP

$25 CVS Gift Card Challenge

I shared with you the other night how I had taken a couple weeks off from my CVS Gift Card Challenge, but I was ready to jump back in! I was very excited writing out my shopping list using the Extra Buck Deals listed by Cheryl at Simply CVS.

While my younger daughter was napping this afternoon, and my older daughter was playing quietly (after we finished her math homework), I grabbed my newly organized coupons and my CVS ad and began circling the items I wished to purchase. I used the post linked above to see if there were any coupons to go along with my planned purchases, and I was able to put together a list and gather up my coupons in about 10-15 minutes! (I say this just to let you know that drug store shopping is not *nearly* as time consuming as people think it is!).

My daughter napped on and on, so I was able to finish putting together my Aldi list (more on that in a bit) and do my dishes and fold all of my laundry (while my older one, who had now insisted that she be addressed as princess unicorn, was giving me a ballet performance---she even danced the folded clothes to there proper locations for me!)

Once the little one finally woke up, we left for CVS. I was able to quickly find everything on my list except for the Keebler Granola bars. When I looked closely at the ad, it stated that they were available in select locations. I did not even see a spot for them, so I guess we are not a select location.

That purchase was part of my plan to use my $4/$20 purchase (which I had subtotaled to be $19.97, so I planned to toss in a 3 for $1 notebook and call it a day). I would not be able to use my $4 coupon if I didn't find a replacement for these items, and I had to think fast because my children were getting antsy! (I'd had to stop by the pharmacy first and drop off an Rx with new insurance cards....)

I knew that after the coupons I planned to use on the granola bars, I was going to be spending $3.50, so I decided to instead grab a tube of the Colgate Optic White. I'm sure there was a coupon for this that I didn't bring along, but so be it!

In the end, I spent only 30 cents more than I had planned (because my makeup cost more in store than the website indicated) and received only 50cent less in ECBs than I had planned, so I don't think I made a bad substitution. The little scanner machine even gave me a FREE dove bar coupon (or milky way)! Gotta love FREE chocolate! =D

I still have $15.39 remaining on my $25 gift card and $10.49. That is like having $25.88 left to spend for my challenge!

So far altogether I have spent $9.61 on items that retail for $111.15. That is an average savings of 91% each trip so far!

Update On $25 CVS Gift Card Challenge--Another Reason I Love CVS

$25 CVS Gift Card Challenge

I wanted to give a quick update on my progress in the $25 CVS Gift Card Challenge from Simply CVS. You may have noticed that I haven't posted a shopping trip in a while. Well, that is because I took a couple weeks off from shopping at CVS.

There are several reasons for this--poor sale items, busy schedules (my husband has been working soooo much, and we've have Kindergarten starting and family visiting), and disorganized coupons to name a few. But you know what, with CVS, that's ok! One of the main things that I love about CVS is the LONG expiration dates on the ECBs. They give you 3 week or more in which to use them, so you never have feel pressure to return week after week!

I've tried to keep up with Walgreens RR program in the past, but those are only valid for 10 days, and I was never able to keep up with "rolling" them the way I am at CVS, because there just were not items I wished to buy there each week. I had gotten to where I would immediately spend them on something I needed. In fact, I hardly ever shop there at all anymore.

I have been scouring the CVS ads each week trying to find great deals on items we've needed and coupons to spend very little OOP, but I just have not seen anything worth it these past two weeks, and with only $7 in ECBs, my OOP would have been high.

I was tempted to just go in and grab the St. Joseph's aspirin freebie with week, but that seemed like too much effort for something we don't even use. I have been learning more and more lately that it is ok to let a deal go by.

I do plan on shopping early this coming week however, because I've scanned next week's sale ad over at Simply CVS and see quite a few things that I'd like to get. I was also sent a survey in my email from the CVS Advisor Panel (I've talked about this in the past, and you really should sign up!) For taking a 10 minute survey, I was award $5 ECBs, so I now have a total of $12 in ECBs to spend at CVS, to go along with the $16 remaining on my giftcard (so that's like having $28 to spend). I also was emailed a $4/$20 purchase coupon this week which will expire on Wednesday. That is $16 towards my $20 purchase right there, without even using coupons!

I'm pretty excited to jump back in and see what I can do this week! In fact, Cheryl at Simply CVS is about to jump back in as well! She has taken an entire month off of CVS shopping, and has decided to give herself a challenge! She has saved up her swagbucks to get herself a $50 CVS Gift Card. She has just received it and is ready to begin her shopping anew! However, she wanted to start *completely* fresh. She has spent up all of her ECBs, so she will be beginning with $0 to spend. She has also taken it a step further and gotten herself a brand new CVS card. This way, none of her previous shopping information is stored, so it won't even know what coupons to print for her at the scanner until she shops for a few weeks!

Saturday Garage Sale Finds

This morning after my daughter's very first rec ballet class (it was a surprise...she was soooooo excited), we saw a few signs for garage sales on the way home. We always love to drive by and see what we can find. I'm always on the look out for cheap clothes for my girls, even if it's to grow into.

We stopped by a couple with no luck, so we headed toward home. When we turned down our road, I saw two signs advertising sales on the next street down, so I drove on to check them out and I'm so very glad that I did.

At the first I found a blue jean skirt ($2) for myself, and at the second, a mere two houses down the street, there was a ton of clothes my oldest daughter's size for sale. Of course, she started shopping on the other side of the lawn, and before we'd been there 30 seconds she had rounded up a whole herd of My Little Ponies. They happen to be her new obsession, as well as our dogs preferred chew toy...so at 10 cents a piece I said she could get them all.

Here are the things we got. The girls jeans were 50 cents each (they are a size too big, so I won't be caught off guard when she has a growth spurt), and the shirts were 25 cents each (these should fit her now). I paid $5.50 total for everything pictured.

There were only 7 ponies we bought today but somehow one of her own got into the picture....the white one with purple hair....well it started off as a unicorn (her other obsession, along with ballet....) but the dog chewed its horn off. =( She's been given strict orders not to leave these on the floor! Her Princess Celestia from McDonalds got her whole face chewed off....

Dishing It Up Recipe Hop: BBQ Dishes--Four Layer Delight (Dessert)

It's Labor Day Weekend! The kids get a break from school (didn't that just start?). The temperature is dropping (those of us in Texas are rejoicing!), and many of us are planning BBQ's with friends and family!

Perhaps you are attending one over the weekend, and don't have a clue what to bring! Well, my blogging buddies and I are here to help! =)

We've come up with a list of our favorite BBQ friendly recipes. They include everything from main dishes, to sides and desserts. Just click through the linky below to see the other recipes!

The recipe I will be sharing with you is a dessert recipe that my mom makes. My family loves it soooo much that they pretty much make her bring it to every family gathering.

Four Layer Delight:

Bottom Layer:
--1 cup all purpose flour
--1/2 cup pecans, chopped (optional, yet delectable)
--1 stick butter, melted
--2 tbsp sugar

Mix ingredients together and spread in tbe bottom of a 9x13 inch casserole dish. Bake at 350 until lightly brown. Let cool completely.

Second Layer:
--1 Cup Cool Whip
--1 8oz pack Cream Cheese
--1 cup powdered sugar
--1 tsp vanilla (optional)

Mix ingredients together and spread over cool crust.

Third Layer:
--1 Large or 2 Small boxes of instant chocolate pudding mix. Follow directions on the box for making. Spread over cream cheese mixture.

Fourth Layer:

Spread Cool Whip on top. Cover and refrigerate.

Sunday Coupon Preview For 9/4

This Sunday is Labor Day week, and like on all major holiday's NO coupons inserts are scheduled to appear in this Sunday's paper.
