Shopping Trip: 6/1 Kroger and Albertson's

After taking a look at all of the best deals out there this week, and gathering up some coupons, I realized that a few of the coupons I wanted to use expired today.  So, after I got my kids to bed, I grabbed my coupons and my shopping list and hit a couple stores.

The first place I went was Kroger.  I shared the scenario I had come up with at the bottom of the post linked above.  I was able to grab all of those few items, and a gallon of milk that I needed.  I ran out early, and I don't really need anything else from Aldi this week, so I went ahead and got it there.

Here is everything I bought at Kroger:

Total Shelf Price:  $15.94
Total Sale Price:   $10.56
Price Paid After Coupons:  $5.63 with tax   65% Savings

Now, you might be thinking that these few items did not warrant a special late night trip to the store.  I would have to agree.  However, since there were some really great deals (like FREE stuff) at Albertson's, and Albertson's is only a block from Kroger, I thought it would be worthwhile to hit them both while I was out.  I also didn't want Albertson's to be out of the freebies!

Here is what I picked up there (see the linked post above for the coupons I used):
Total Shelf Price:  $20.99
Total Sale Price:   $11.36  (already 46% savings)
Price Paid After Coupons:  $4.40     79% Savings

The only thing that wasn't already listed in my best deals post was the Totino's pizzas.  They were on sale for $0.88 each and I used a $1 off 5 coupon (available in the 4/17 and 5/22 SS inserts) which made them just $0.68 each.  I wasn't going to get them at all, but my husband and I have a bad case of late night pizza cravings, and right before I left this Pizza Hut commercial came on....so it was either $0.68 or $10  LOL.  Not nearly as good, but it will have to do.

Incidentally, that middle pizza box is actually empty.  My husband did not wish to wait for me to arrange them and snap a picture, so he sliced the back with his knife and slid the pizza out.  It was actually baking, unbeknownst to me, when I snapped this shot.

All together I spent $10.03 tonight, and I had my husband stop by El Rio Grande on his way home and get 15 lbs of $1/lb ground beef and 10 lbs of $0.99/lb pork chops.  With that included, we've spent roughly $35, half of our weekly budget.

I still plan to go to Save-A-Lot and Tom Thumb, so hopefully I can stay under budget.

How is your grocery shopping going?  Have you found some good deals?

$0.50 Cheerios At Albertsons, Elsewhere?

It's a new month and that means new coupons at coupons.com!  I am preparing a post to let you know about several news ones right now, but when I saw this one I just had to stop everything and tell you about it right away.

There is a coupon available for $0.50/1 box of Cheerios!  It was on page 4 for me and there are no size restrictions.

If you have a store near you that doubles, this will make a great deal!  In fact, as soon as I saw it, I figured that someone by me *must* have Cheerios on sale this week, so I looked through my sale ads and sure enough, Albertson's did!  (Sorry, it's a bit blurry...toddler fingerprints on the camera lens....)

As you can see, Albertson's has them, and several other cereals, on sale for just $1.50/box this week.  This isn't a bad price for cereal to begin with, but paired up with this coupon, which they will double, you can walk away paying only $0.50/box!   This is definitely a stock up price for cereal, especially when the aforementioned toddler is prone to this!

I would print it ASAP before it reaches it's print limit and is gone for good!

If there is no Albertson's in your area, is there another store that has Cheerios on sale this week?  Leave a comment below telling us the store, city, and price so we can have more ideas where to use this great coupon.

Shopping Trip 5/27: Kroger and Albertson's

Today was payday and I had been putting off shopping until then, so I had big plans for today.  We ended up getting a late start, though.  I had to go to the library to return movies, so I opted to go to the two stores that were that direction first.  They were not where the majority of my shopping was to be done, so I will go back out once my husband gets home.  (I had to come home for naptime....)

First up was Kroger.  One of the reasons I went there was because I heard that the Pampers travel wipes were on sale for $1.  The $0.50/1 from the P&G insert would have doubled and made them free.  They were not $1.  The Kandoo wipes, were though.  If there is a coupon for those, I didn't have it with me.

I did get all of this stuff though (the chicken was my main reason for going):

I paid $14.xx for this.  I have lost my receipt, so I can't tell you my savings %  (if I recall it was $34 something when I handed over my card), but here is the breakdown:

  • Milano Cookies  $2 each.  Used  $1/1 Melts Printable (no longer available) and one from 5/15 SS, plus the $0.50 any from 5/15 SS  = $1 each
  • Bar S Hot dogs  $1 each.  Used $1/2  printables (no longer available) and from 5/22 RP = $0.50 each
  • Country Crock  Do not recall exact price, but I used my $1/1 from All You, and it made it less than one form Aldi would cost.
  • Chicken leg quarters  $0.59/lb in 10lb bag for $5.90

On to Albertson's and already pushing lunch time, I grabbed some fried chicken from the deli, and all of this stuff:

Total Shelf Price:  $17.82
Total Sale Price:   $11.73
Price Paid After Coupons:  $9.26    48% Savings

I told you about the Ragu and BBQ sauce here, but I also noticed that the C&H sugar was $2.19.  I had a $0.50 coupon (I have no idea where from) that doubled to make it just $1.19, which was cheaper than the Aldi price.

The best part of this trip is that even though today was payday, none of this came out of this month's budget.  I finished off the gift card that I told you about here, and used $7 cash I still had from last month.

Now my husband just got home, so I am about to head to the bank, Aldi, and Tom Thumb.  Busy day!

Shopping Trip 4/29: Kroger and Albertson's

I got a bit of a late start this morning, so I was only able to make it to two stores before I had to go home for lunch and naptime.  I plan to do the rest of my shopping later this afternoon.  I had to drop some things off at the library, so I decided to go to Kroger and Albertson's this morning, since they are only a few blocks farther.

My first stop was Kroger.  I was running low on pet supplies, so I stocked up on those here.  I needed some cat food, and I have to buy an indoor formula otherwise my two fluffy kitties get awful hairballs.  Kroger has a large store brand bag of this for only $11.39, which is $4 less than the Purina I usually get.  I also had three expiring coupons for $1.50/1 Tidy cats.  These were on sale for $4.99, so after my coupons they were $3.49.  Aldi's cat litter has increased from $3.69 to $3.99, and does not keep the smell at bay for nearly as long, so I splurged and used all three of my coupons today.  That should last us for a while.  I also had a coupon that I had requested by mail for $5/1 4.4lb or larger Pedigree dog food.  The 4.4 lb bag was actually on sale for $3.99 today.  I thought that the coupon would beep and they would need to adjust the price, but it scanned the full $5 off, so I actually made $1.01 on the bag of dog food.

Here is everything I picked up at Kroger:

Total Shelf Price:   $60.83
Total Sale Price:    $44.90
Price Paid After Coupons:  $28.40 + 1.72 tax =   $$30.12 OOP   50% Savings

I actually checked out in two separate transactions, and it wasn't to get away with anything using my coupons!  At first they were sold out of the pizzas.  When I checked out I asked the cashier, who paged someone.  The manager was walking by and heard the page, and pointed out that the freezer was being restocked as we spoke, so I went back and grabbed my pizzas.  Talk about good timing!

At this point, it was already lunchtime, but I still needed a few things from Albertson's.  Luckily, one of the things I needed was going to be lunch.  Their 8 piece deli fried chicken, which is not in the picture because my kids were devouring it while I arranged the groceries, was only $4.99.  It was a bit of a splurge, but I knew we'd be late getting home and I am still not feeling up to par, so today it was worth it.

Here is everything I got from Albertson's (minus the chicken):

Total Shelf Cost:  $58.94
Total Sale Price:   $30.94
Price Paid After Coupons:  $25.61 with tax    57% Savings

As you can see, most of my savings on this trip were NOT coupon savings (that was just over $5).  Most of my savings came from just buying items that were on sale.  They are having a "Crazy 8's" sale this week, and most of the items pictured above where on sale for just $0.88.  All of these items, especially the Hefty bags (which were shelf priced at $2.99), were great bargains even without the coupons.

You also see that I got meat and produce!  Two whole chickens, priced at just $0.49/lb (half price) meant I payed roughly $2.50 each for them.  I already have two whole chickens in my freezer waiting to be cooked, but I for $5 out of my grocery budget, I could not see passing these up since I can usually stretch one into 4 meals.   I also picked up a little over 2lbs of fresh green beans.  We had just used up the last of what I had gotten from the farmer's market a while back, and they have since gone up in price tremendously at the farmer's market ($3-4 for a small basket full).  My bag here is probably about 3 of those baskets worth, and I paid only $2.20 because they were on sale for just $0.99/lb.

So far this week, including the 20lbs of ground beef that I had my husband stop and pick up from El Rio Grande ($1/lb Wednesday only)--that is what the taco seasoning and pasta sauce is for, I have spent $76.43.  This is already over my weekly budget, and I'm not done yet.  I'm not really bothered by it though, because being right after pay day and needing so many pet items I knew I was going to spend a lot today.  I should be able to make adjustments later on in the month, especially since I've gotten my freezer restocked up with meals lately.

What about you?  How often is payday (once a month for us)?  Do you tend to spend more right after payday, or is it about the same amount from week to week?

Albertson's Trip 4/8 71% Savings

I had to take some items back to the library today, and that is just a couple blocks from Albertson's so I decided to go ahead and go today while I was out in the name of preserving gas.  There were not very many items that I planned to buy there, but ended up with a few extra in my cart.

Here is what I got:

Total Shelf Price:   $37.72
Sale Price:             $22.64  (including the $5 deducted for buying 10 participating items and the discount on the yogurt.)
Price Paid After Coupons:     $10.86     71 % Savings

The yogurt I purchased was one of my unplanned items.  They were already on sale for $2, and they each had a $0.50 off sticker on them (even though they don't expire until the 13th!).  I happened to have two $0.50/1 coupons with me that would double, and they expired tomorrow.  So between the discount sticker and my coupon, I paid only $0.50 each for these.

The other unplanned item I got was the 2 bags of bread flour.  I had been running low on this stuff for a while, and Aldi doesn't carry it.  I always forget to check the price when I'm shopping elsewhere because I'm usually so focused on my list and my coupons.  Well, today I took a wrong turn (I'm not very familiar with the store) and ended up on the baking aisle.  I was expecting to pay upwards of $3 per bag for bread flour, but was very pleasantly surprised to find these for just $1.59 shelf price, so I grabbed two bags.  Without these, my savings would have been 77%, but I considered it a good price.

Here is the break down of the rest:
4 cans Red Gold tomatoes  @ $0.59 each.  Used two $0.50/2 printables that doubled =  $0.09/can.

10 items:
1 KC Masterpiece  @ $0.79 wyb 10.  Used  $0.50/1 from 3/13SS (doubled)= $0.21 moneymaker
1 Puffs  @ $0.99 wyb 10.  Used $0.50/1 from PG Mailer (doubled)=  $0.01 moneymaker
4 Grands Biscuits @ $0.99 each wyb 10.  Used 2 $0.30/2 Printables (tripled) =$0.54 each
2 Lean Pockets @ 1.49 each wyb 10.  Used 2 $1/1 printables from their facebook page (no longer available)=  $0.49 each.
2 Simply Orange @$ 2.79 each wyb 10.  Used 2 $1/1 printables from their facebook page (no longer available)=  $1.79 each.

The orange juice may have been a little bit high, but the coupons were nearing expiration, and we were running very low on juice.  Plus its my husband's favorite, and by that I mean they will likely both disappear by tomorrow ;)

This trip, along with my Aldi trip yesterday and my CVS trip on Sunday, was all of my shopping for the week.  Altogether, I spent $66.85, which is just within my new lowered grocery budget of $70, down from $75 last month.  I'm hoping that I can stick to it and lower it even more, but I'm not sure how the slowly rising food prices will affect that.

What about you?  Do you have a weekly or monthly budget that you try to stick to?  Tell us how much you spend and how many people that feeds.  Mine is for 4, and my kids are nearly 5 and 20mo.

Shopping Trip 3/29: Albertson's and Kroger

I didn't shop last week, and now I'm trying to make up for it at the last minute.  I knew I wanted to make one more trip to Kroger before the Mega Sale ended (it may be going on a third week, but I wasn't certain), and there were also a few things that I wanted to pick up from Albertson's which is on the way and 2 blocks from Kroger, so that is what we did this morning.

First stop, Albertson's for some cheap detergent and Nature Valley bars:

Shelf Price:  $20.94
Sale Price:   $9.98  (Saved $4 instantly when I bought 4 participating items)
Price Paid After Coupons:  $3.98 + tax =$4.14    80% Savings

From there I went to Kroger.  I wanted to grab a few more of the Mega Items that I had wasn't able to use all my coupons for last trip.  I also had those Kool-Aid coupons I wanted to use.  I also found some bell peppers marked down to $0.99 for 4 on the way in.  The Cuties clementine oranges were on sale for $2.99 for a 3 lb bag, and I was going to grab on for that price, but when I did I noticed a coupon inside the package for $0.35/1 3lb bag.  That tripled to make it less $1.94.  Best I've even seen them for and they are SOOOO good.

Here is all I got (sorry, it's a little scrunched up and hard to see everything--there are actually 8 more boxes of Ronzoni in there.  I had 10, but I ended up with 22 items instead of 20, so I put 2 back):
Shelf Price:  $58.36
Sale Price:   $34.07
Price Paid After Coupons:  $13.32      77% Savings

Now, I'm about to go slice up those peppers into strips and throw them in the freezer to cook with. =)  Half of the time, finding the best deals requires so planning at all, it is just being in the right place at the right time.

Oh, and when I was checking out at Kroger, there was an elderly man behind me in line.  He was watching the cashier scan all my coupons and he commented that he supposed he should start saving coupons too, he's just always been too lazy.  I told him that was kind of my job at the moment.  He glanced over at my girls and said it looked like I had a much harder job than just clipping coupons, and that they sure were cute.  He made me smile.

I may not be done with my shopping for the week, since new ads will come out tomorrow.  I may even make a trip to Wal-Mart (I shudder at the thought!) to use some of my really good coupons that are about to expire on 3/31 and I haven't found a sale to use them with yet.  Maybe some of that overage they are now allowing can absorb some of the cost of a new wiper blade for my van!  I'm getting tired of staring at pollen smudges.

Shopping Trip 1/21--Albertson's and Kroger

I don't often attempt shopping with coupons with both of my girls in tow, especially not at two stores.  I must have been feeling pretty brave today, or at least really desperate to get out of the house.  I had planned only to go to Kroger, but then a few things caught my eye in the Albertson's ad as well, and the stores are two blocks from each other, so I thought that it just made sense to stop by both while I was out.

Here is what I grabbed from Albertsons:

  • 2 Best Life Buttery Spread (I was dissappointed that they only had one tub on the shelf)  $0.99--used 2 $1/1 from 1/2 SS--FREE
  • 4 Dawn  $1.00 each--used 4 $0.25/1 from 12/26 P&G (tripled)---$0.25 each
  • 1 Ivory  $1.00  used 1 $0.25/1 from 1/16 P&G (tripled)---$0.25
  • 2 Spaghettios  $1.00 each, used $0.40/2 from 12/12 SS (doubled)---$0.60 each
  • 2 Finish on sale (unadvertised!!) $3.50--used 2 $2.25/1 from 1/2 RP--$1.25 each
Total Shelf Price:  $24.51
Total Sale Price:   $14.00
Price Paid After Coupons and Tax:   $5.26   79% Savings!   Plus, I think I'm stocked up on dish soap ;)

Next I went over to Kroger.  Here is what I came home with (click to enlarge):
Total Shelf Price:  $  89.93
Total Sale Price:   $  60.49
Price Paid After Coupons and Tax:  $28.07   69% Savings   Not bad considering the $10.49 bag of dog food!

A few highlights:
  • Kroger had the Best Life for $1 also (unadvertised) so I used my remaining 4 $1/1 coupons=FREE!
  • Colgate  $1--used 5 $0.50/1 from 1/2 SS (doubled)=FREE!  ***(If you want to get these hurry!!! They expire tomorrow!!!)***
  • Carmex  $1--used $0.30/1 from 11/7 SS (tripled)= $0.10 each.
  • Yakisoba  $0.88 (shelf said $0.99 but they rang up on sale)--used $0.50/1 from 1/2 SS (doubled to .88)=FREE!  I know these aren't the healthiest thing, but my husband likes them and keeps them at school with him.  Sometimes he gives them to his students if he sees they don't have a lunch, so that's a great thing to use coupons for!!
  • Bird's Eye Steam Fresh  $1--Used 3 $0.50/1 printables (from facebook--no longer available) and 2 $0.50/2 from....well I can't find what insert they were from.....all doubled so they were FREE (3)- $0.50 (4).  All said I got 7 for $2 or  $0.29/ pack.
  • Campbell's Soups  $1.  Bought 12--used 6 $0.40/2 from 1/2 SS and 12/12 SS (all doubled)=$0.60
  • Grands Biscuits (8ct)  $1.  Bought 6--Used 3 $0.30/2 printables (all tripled) = $0.55 each (that's less that 7 cents per biscuit!)
  • I also found a pack of soup bones marked down for $0.98 and I plan to make a soup soon. Score!

Did you find some good deals this week?

8/8--My CVS and Albertson's Trip

CVS:

Shelf Price:  $50.95
Sale Price:   $41.95
Price After Coupons:  $31.95
Price after $15 ECB's: 16.95 +tax  (67% savings)  --this was less than the sale price of just the medicine!
I had about $17 remaining on a gift card from a prescription transfer, so after that I paid just $0.43 and I got back $12 ECB's ($5 from the meds, $3 from Huggies, and $4 from Razor)--Plus I am going to submit the Schick Rebate I told you about to get the full $8.97 cost of the razor back, making this a big moneymaker!  Hurry!  It must be purchased by 8/18 and received by 9/1.

Albertson's:

Total Shelf Price:  $67.24--4 yogurts not pictured
Sale Price:  $41.70
Total Paid After Coupons:  $15.47  (77% savings)

A few things to note:  I told you about the ConAgra Rebate-purchase $10 receive $25 worth of coupons.  Well, I had forgotten about it too, until I noticed that Albertson's and Tom Thumb were both having a sale on their products, then I remembered about it and realized that the purchases have to be made by 8/15 and it must be mailed by 9/1--I'll be getting those ready to mail later.

So at Albertson's the products are all 10 for $10--be careful because some included do not count toward the rebate.  When you buy 10, you get three free (basically buy 13 and $3 will be deducted at the register).  Tom Thumb has a similar 10 for $10 sale with an in-ad *manufacturer* coupon to get $3 off when you buy 10 products.  I clipped it and took it over to Albertson's and the self check out accepted it with no issues.

Also, if you decide to do this, check the sale ad rack at the front door.  I picked up a paper full of *manufacturer* coupons (you can use these anywhere), and the one on the very bottom right said "Get FREE fruit snacks when you buy 5 Hunts products."  Woohoo!  I was already planning to do that!

All said, I think I had a pretty good shopping trip!  I hope you guys are all getting great deals too.  I would love to hear about them.

A Few New Printables and Where to Use Them

I am planning some more shopping trips--we ran out of everything before our trip and my husband is home for one more week before school starts up so I'm going to be a shopping fool.  Anyways, as I was looking over the current and future sale prices, I came across some pretty great coupons to match up with sale prices.

$1.00/1 Jimmy Dean Sausage product for becoming a fan on facebook.

I am going to use this at Albertson's momentarily.  They are on sale 4 for $10, and when you buy 4 you automatically get $3 deducted (must have store coupon found on front page of ad).  Use 4 of these (if you have 2 computers, hit the back button and print twice on each) or there are some in the 6/13 Red Plum-amount off varies by region.  I have both $2/2 and $1/2.  Depending on which of these you have, you will end up paying $0.75-$1.00/ sausage roll.

$1.00/2 Tony's frozen pizza products (not a bricks, so only 1 print per computer)

I'm going to pick up a couple of these at Albertson's also.  They are on sale for $0.79 each until Tuesday.

$0.35/1 Purex Natural Elements

This is a great one to print as many as you can and hold on to for next week.  It will be on sale at Kroger for the Mega event they will be having.  Saving Money Wisely has all the details-her's starts tomorrow, but it will not begin until Wednesday around here.  If you buy in the correct number of multiples for the sale event, this item will be just $1.99.  The coupon will triple at my store, it may double elsewhere, but you can get detergent for as little as $0.95.
